Anyone familiar with Hackettstown Regional Medical Center (HRMC) cannot deny that over the years, this healthcare institution has undergone a metamorphosis. This transformation is evident in the major facility expansion and technological enhancements that have made many stand up and take notice of HRMC as an effective, thriving, regional Medical Center. One of the major influences supporting the Hospitals ongoing success is the work of the Hackettstown Regional Medical Center Foundation.
For those not familiar with this 25-year-old entity, simply put, the Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Medical Center. Monies raised through the Foundations capital campaigns, events and other activities fund essential services and equipment purchases that are separate from the Medical Centers general operating budget.
Ever since the founding of the original committee to build the Hospital, there have been countless examples of financial generosity and volunteer support that have led us to where we are today. During those early years, the raising of the funds necessary to build Hackettstown Community Hospital was a true priority for the community. In fact, members of the first Hospital Board donated $22,500 to purchase the original 15 acres tract of land on which to build the Hospital.
During the 1960s, community leaders translated their philanthropic spirit and dedication into activities that rallied the Hackettstown area residents to give generously. However, recognizing the need for some fundraising assistance, the new Hospital Board reached out to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which was acknowledged to be a leader in developing and operating healthcare facilities. Milton Murray, a representative of the Adventist Church, came to Hackettstown to lend his expertise. Working together, the fundraising goals were met, and the new Hospital was built.
In 1980, seven years after the Hospital opened its doors to the public, the Hackettstown Community Healthcare Foundation was incorporated. Originally under the direction of the late Dr. Charles Kwartler, the Foundation (now known as the Hackettstown Regional Medical Center Foundation) has grown to become a major philanthropic presence in the northwest New Jersey region.
Among the most noticeable enhancements funded by the Foundations efforts are: new and expanded Emergency Department facilities; state-of-the-art CT/Body Scanner technology; modernization of the Childbirth Family Center; extensive interior & exterior remodeling; and countless additional enhancements of the Medical Centers facilities, technological capabilities and services.
The Foundations current Capital Campaign will bring a new level of healthcare to the people who live and work in northwest New Jersey. The Foundations Board and staff welcome the opportunity to share their exciting plans for the future and invite you to be a part of it all. With a well-established base of support and an effective plan for the future on its side, the HRMC Foundation is poised for a great year ahead.
