 Stroke: Stroke Center

Hackettstown Regional Medical Center is prepared to apply for both Joint Commission Accreditation as a Stroke Center and State recognition as a Primary Stroke Center. This process has been going on since 2006 and has involved numerous hours of work involving the Emergency Department Physicians, Neurologists, and the P & T Committee.

These designations revolve around the concept of recognizing and treating stroke patients in the timeliest manner. Included in the
process is determining if a patient qualifies for TPA and then administering the medication to reverse the effects of the occluded artery. We have had several success stories already and have helped some patients tremendously.

Dr. Eric Englestein is the Medical Director of our Stroke Program and has been working diligently with the Emergency
Department Physicians. As part of the requirements to become certified as a Stroke Center, our Emergency Department physicians have all agreed to become board certified in Emergency Medicine.

Congratulations and good luck to all those physicians planning to take the certifying exam.
